Job Creation & Economic Growth
Permanent job creation is the one guaranteed catalyst for getting Georgia's economy back on track. We need to get people back to work in this state and do that I believe in a simple formula for economic growth:
Give businesses the proper tools to create new jobs + Place more money back in the hands of consumers + less money in the hands of state government = Long-term, prosperous growth.
Economic recovery in Gwinnett and across Georgia will be achieved by empowering our existing small business community and creating the right environment for start-ups and investment. We must also embrace every opportunity to put hard-earned taxpayer money back in the hands of Gwinnett families. Creating the right environment the free market to grow and expand will lead us to better economic days, not the government.
- Voted for the Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Success (JOBS) Act in 2009 and 2010; initiatives designed to spur job creation and business growth by offering tax incentives for employers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
- Voted for the Georgia Entertainment Investment Act providing tax credits for production companies who film projects in Georgia.
Protecting Our Freedoms & Limiting Government
I firmly believe in the rights and liberties granted by our Constitution. Our founding fathers hoped for a nation that truly offers life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The U.S. Constitution must act as a safeguard for personal freedoms and not be used as a political tool for government expansion. Simply put, I believe less government is better government and will continue to fight for our cherished freedom in the state Capitol.
- Voted to protect Georgians from mandatory purchase of health insurance, blocking the disastrous federal heath care "reform"
- Voted to pass Transparency in Government Act - created Open Georgia and required state agencies to put expenditures online so taxpayers can see how the government is using their hard-earned dollars.
Real Education Reform
As a former public school teacher, education improvements and reform is something I have been tirelessly committed to during my time at the Capitol. With over 60 percent of our state budget dedicated to public education funding (K-12 schools and University System of Georgia) we must utilize every dollar effectively to protect and enhance our school systems for our teachers, parents, and most importantly our students.
- Introduced HB 1133, the tuition tax credit bill. This legislation provides parents with the opportunity to put their tax dollars towards private education and was signed into law by Governor Perdue in 2008.
- Carried SB 10 in the House, which provided for much-needed reform in the area of special needs vouchers. Thanks to this legislation, many of Georgia's children are now able to attend schools that are able to accommodate their unique educational needs.
